#31: Homeschooling with Anxiety and Depression, How One Mom Does It

This week we welcome Lauren, mom of three. Lauren started homeschooling just before covid, after her son came home from school with some discouraging behavioral reports from his teacher. Lauren's son was so saddened by getting the bad report, that he told his mother something no mom ever wants to hear.. soon after, Lauren pulled her kids from school.

After meeting with doctors for her son's ADHD diagnosis and refusing to medicate him, Lauren began exploring other ways to assist her son with learning.

Lauren brings us with her on her own diagnosis of anxiety and depression and discusses when she feels medication is appropriate and when alternatives can be used.

We chat about “strewing”, and how Lauren uses this technique with her kids. Strewing is about helping your kids explore and play and create on their own. It's about introducing or reintroducing materials, books, concepts, in a non-pushy way that lets them own the experience and gives them the thrill of discovery. We discuss kid's podcasts, emergency preparedness, and why it's so important to teach kids how to identify manipulation.

Join us for a heartfelt discussion between two moms who don't have it all figured out, but love their kids and are trying each day to better themselves for those little rascals!
