#25: Finding the Best Path Forward when Dealing with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia

This week we welcome Liz from Idaho. Liz never pictured herself as the homeschooling mom, but after seeing her son struggle to learn very basic things, she decided to talk her husband into letting her home educate for their son's kindergarten year. After learning that her son has dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, Liz set out to find a curriculum that would help her son without the frustration he had previously been dealing with.

Liz went through many different curriculum, even ones that were meant for dyslexic children, yet she was having no success. You will have to tune in to this week's episode to find out what actually worked!

Liz explains EBLI to us, Evidence-Based Learning Instruction, which is a program that she has been heavily involved with and is being featured in a soon-to-be-released documentary called, The Truth About Reading. Have you ever wondered if schools are teaching the BEST way to learn how to read? Would schools have any incentive to make it more difficult for children to learn to read?  Did you ever think that school curriculum could be a political issue?

Liz provides us resources for reading and writing games and discusses how read alouds can do wonders for our children's vocabulary. Do you often go through the day and think, “I never got that 20 minutes to sit down with my child to read?” or, “man, he just watched too much TV today.”  Well let's fix the issue by providing our kids with access to audiobooks!

Tune in to this week's episode to hear an amazing story from a mom who went as far as getting a certification in Norton Gilliam just to make sure she was giving her son everything he needed. This episode is filled with valuable information, you definitely don't want to miss it!
