#17: Talked Out Of Homeschooling, Hear One Mom’s Battle With The School System As She Fights To Keep Her Son Afloat

Do you homeschool and wonder, “am I doing the right thing for my child?” Have you wanted to homeschool but been talked out of it? Homeschooling comes with many fears, the biggest one being- failing our children. As parents, we only want what's best for our kids, unfortunately, it's impossible to know what that is because none of us have a crystal ball. Elon hasn't invented that yet…

This week we are joined by Kristen, a mom from New York who knew in her heart that homeschooling would be the right choice for her son. Unfortunately, Kristen was talked out of homeschooling by family and friends.

Upon learning that her son has ADHD and tourette syndrome, Kristen's confidence in herself and her ability to homeschool diminished even more because she didn't know if she could provide him with all of the services he would need. So off to school .. with the “professionals” he went.

Kristen explains to us the heartwrenching battle she encountered with the public school system as she tried to keep her son afloat in his classes. Meeting after meeting, being intiminated by teachers, learning there was helpful information yet nobody was willing to give it to her, Kristen fought with the school. Kristen soon learned that decisions are often made in the schools based on funding and paperwork- not what she had planned when searching for her home in this area because of the “great school district.”

If you've ever questioned your decision to homeschool, this episode is for you.

If you've ever wondered if you should homeschool, but don't have the confidence to do it, this episode is for you.

I want to thank Kristen for sharing this story with us. I hope you enjoy the show and are able to learn something about our school system from this. Please think about sharing the show with friends, family, and even to your homeschool groups on facebook. If you're able to write a review on Apple Podcasts, that would be so appreciated and will help the show grow organically.
